About Us
We believe THE ARTS are an essential community service, and the Caswell Council For the Arts is in the business of providing that service – along with that special spark that stimulates the creativity, the life and the energy so crucial to community growth.
Founded in 1977 to sponsor and encourage cultural education and activities throughout the greater Caswell community, the mission of the CASWELL COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS is to 1) increase arts awareness, 2) educate our citizenry, 3) provide positive opportunities for exposure to the arts, and 4) nurture local creative expression.
To that end, we annually sponsor the CASWELL PERFORMING ARTS SERIES of nationally and internationally recognized attractions for general audiences; the CASWELL YOUTH SERIES of live, professional performances for young people; and co-sponsor the GALLERY PROGRAM of exhibitions by local, state and regional artists working in a variety of different mediums. We annually support ARTS-IN-EDUCATION programs in the public schools, sponsor juried art shows for both adults and students (grades K-12), fund programs for both pre-school age children and senior citizens, and provide support for community events like the Brightleaf Hoedown and the Providence Spring Fling. We offer COMMUNITY CULTURAL GRANTS in support of cultural programs designed and implemented by area schools, churches, civic organizations and any other non-profit agency or organization, and provide SCHOLARSHIPS for people of all ages to pursue an interest in the arts. We also maintain a 'Permanent Collection' of over 140 pieces of art, which are made available at no charge to schools and other non-profits with suitable display space.
Quite apart from the intrinsic value of THE ARTS to quicken the mind and refresh the spirit, or the vital role they play in the lives of young people – enhancing creativity and building self-esteem – the programs of the CASWELL COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS provide a very real boost to tourism and economic development, attracting people and business to a community that is alive with stimulating, quality leisure time activities for ALL of its citizens. Volunteers
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization! They provide invaluable services, assisting with fundraising efforts ( including ALL of the manpower necessary for the Caswell Spring Market and the Arts Council's booth at the Briteleaf Hoedown ), front-of-house operations ( all ushers, ticket-takers, door attendants, concessions and show security at both adult and children's programs are community volunteers), and bulk-mailing (labeling, folding, sorting and counting).
USHERS must be physically able to climb stairs, are required to attend a pre-season 'Training Session,' and must commit to a minimum of FOUR shows per season. Please call us for complete details!
If YOU would like to volunteer for any - or all! - of these functions, please contact Foye Lockhart at 336 694-4591 during normal working hours, Monday through Friday, or click here.
